Edelbrock Presents Inaugural Scholarships

TORRANCE, Calif. - (June 9, 2003) - It started as a typical Christmas dilemma: what do you get for the person who has everything? At Edelbrock, the employees came up with a terrific answer, and as a result today two South Torrance High School seniors were honored as the first recipients of the Vic and Nancy Edelbrock Scholarships.

Shaun Stanfield and Talha Masood, both of whom plan to attend El Camino College in Torrance, were introduced as the inaugural winners of the scholarships that honor the Edelbrock President & CEO and his wife, who is on the company's Board of Directors. Stanfield received a $1,000 scholarship, while Masood won $500.

Last December, "the employees decided to create a scholarship for Vic and Nancy (Edelbrock, company president & CEO and his wife) as their Christmas present," says Laura King, coordinator of the Vic & Nancy Edelbrock Scholarship committee. "It solved our problem of having to come up with a creative gift every year, and it gives back to the community. It's a perfect situation."

Vic Edelbrock Jr. concurred. "Nancy and I were delighted when we heard about the scholarship idea. We're honored by this gesture, and we think it's a terrific way for these employees who mean so much to us, to give back to our community."

Attending the ceremony were Torrance City Councilman Michael Mauno, Board of Education member Heidi Ann Ashcraft, South High School Principal Ron Alatorre, South High Automotive Technology Instructor Tom Stout, Edelbrock executives and the families of the scholarship winners.
